Hi Simon and thanks for the links

I do not believe that I need to apply to any other organisation for
permission to develop OpenLitterMap. Correct me if I am wrong but I do not
believe that my project OpenLitterMap infringes on the trademarks or rights
of any other organisation.

For example, I do not believe that OpenTreeMap or OpenCycleMap or
OpenWhateverMap infringe upon on my rights to develop my application, nor
do I believe that I am obstructing others from carrying on with their
important work.

The OSM trademark definitions are clear, and correct me if I am wrong but
Litter is clearly quite a different word to Street. These words begin with
different letters that have very different shapes and shorten as different
acronyms.

That said, I do see the value in some kind of a partnership. I hope we can
work together and I look forward to any more constructive feedback. You
might be interested to know that although OpenLitterMap users are primarily
concerned with mapping and producing open data on plastic pollution, there
is also a category to map the locations of gutters in the street where
litter sometimes begins its journey to the ocean- which would make for an
interesting number of studies. I can also add in more permanent and
semi-permanent features such as bins, recycling centers, etc- and the open
data can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of their location. Also,
because OpenLitterMap uses OpenStreetMap address data to populate its list
of locations dynamically, I can also provide information on where there are
significant gaps in the OSM address system and ask the OpenLitterMap users
to fill these in. Last month someone uploaded a photo from Vietnam, but we
had to wait another month for the user to find a location that had the
other 2 layers of "State" and "City" to render the grid map which is only
available at the 3rd layer. Same situation in Svalbard which you can see on
the global map, but it is not yet listed on /maps, and a few other
locations in the West of Ireland and elsewhere.

Of course, OpenLitterMap data is open data and I would love to be able to
find a way to improve my platform to further share and streamline this data
into OpenStreetMap. There is also a large range of potential research
applications integrating OpenStreetMap and OpenLitterMap data which I
discuss in my paper.

Litter mapping is a new, important and exciting field of GIScience which I
hope you and many others will take an interest in and support.

Thanks for your help,

Seán
