Yep, that is my understanding, and that is a nice succinct way of 
putting it. Something for the FAQ perhaps.

While it is through the fog of memory and time, this seems to be a bit 
of a pointless re-run of our analysis of and request for advice on this 
very issue around 2012 - Christoph is however right in thinking it an 
important issue. As I recall, there is a concept of "layered IP" and a 
specific example was quoted: If you take a picture of a McDonald's and 
release the photo under an CC license, that does not give anyone the the 
right to then use the McDonald's logo design in the photo.
