[Osmf-talk] I’m running for OSMF board and I’ve set up office hours for questions

Dear OSMF,

I’ve know Mike Migurski for about a decade, as have many of you. His presence on the OSM community in San Francisco is a big part of what initially convinced me there might be something special here. Walking Papers is such an elegant and simple solution to bridging issues of technology and inclusion, and just one tangible example of the many reasons why Mike is an asset to OSM.

I can remember him organizing mapping parties, explaining JOSM to anyone willing to try it, sitting down to geobreakfast with whoever wanted to join, attending and encouraging others to attend OSM conferences. Mike regards everyone with the same open hearted kindness and generously of spirit, for years and years and years before he took a job working for Facebook on Data for Good.

I am still on the fence about whether the OSM community could ever be something I would like to participate in, but I am not on the fence about Mike. He is decent and kind, especially to those he may not agree with. He is one of the strongest intellects I know. You could not make a better choice than to vote for him.

As for “high office” and the responsibilities therein. Fredrick’s email was an ad hominem attack, and all this subsequent drama is deeply absurd. If you are drowning in the torrent of words, I hope you are able to find the facts. Mike Migurski is a champion of open source and a hero in the OSM community. His achievements speak for themselves, and they do not diminish the accomplishments of others.

While I’m piling on praise, Allan Mustard, thank you. I shared a table with you once at a conference, just the two of us, even though you were the keynote speaker! These things happen in a world full of introvert mappers. I’m pleased and grateful you’ve joined this board in your retirement. You do us all such credit, and I appreciate you.

To everyone else running, thank you also. I read through your candidate statements and Q&A responses, thanks for being such a thoughtful and dedicated bunch.

And to everyone else, if you haven’t filled out your ballot yet, stop procrastinating and go vote :-).

Sincerely,
Stephanie

What assurance can you give that you would exercise your own independent judgment, espeically given your employment in what (sounds to be) a core unit in Facebook's mapping work?

I did this last year when I ran and ended up having a few really fun conversations with community members. I’m blocking these four times over the next two weeks prior to the close of voting and AGM on Dec 12; get in touch via email if you’d like to chat by text, voice, or video!
