Speaking personally, when you already have email (personal and work), slack
(for work and professional), Twitter (personal and professional), and
WeChat (personal), WhatsApp (OSM), adding yet another messaging app simply
gets to be too much. There's nothing wrong with Telegram, but if my friends
and family aren't on it, it's a pretty significant hurdle to download, sign
up, remember to check it... For me, the barrier to OSMUS slack was much
lower because I was already using slack, and I only caved to downloading
WhatsApp because of SotM. I imagine someone used to Telegram probably feels
the same way about my normal communication channels, maybe even including
email.
