Simon,

None of the above. Would this have been better?

We discussed our ongoing investigation to examine possible future
modifications to Dorothea's contract; with an eye to retaining her valuable
services, while minimizing overhead costs. We decided to continue that
work, but recognized it would take more than a few weeks. Meanwhile the
current contract was due to expire, so we decided to extend that for the
time being.
