Yes, corporate involvement caused already significant damage. But I think that I would not
go so far, situation is not so bad (at least in areas where I am involved in OSM)

Though makes it more important to avoid damage and destruction.

OK, now I am lost in an analogy. What would be an equivalent thing in OSM that is 

- required solely by large companies (not required by other entities)
- not provided or in danger of disappearing
- can be provided by OSMF or OSM community in general
- should be provided to large companies by OSMF (or OSM community in general)
