This is the result of several months of consultation and analysis amongst
working groups, the advisory committee, and the fundraising committee.

The goals are to secure financial stability for the OSMF over the long term
by 1) bringing in more revenue from existing corporate members through a
clearer articulation of the appropriate level of support; 2) bringing in
more corporate members overall, especially smaller "SME"s who are often
excellent partners to OSM; 3) sending a message to OSM-using NGOs,
nonprofits, and government agencies to join/support through membership; and
4) expanding the benefits of the advisory committee.

 In all cases the benefit of increased engagement with these organizations
can be measured in greater awareness of the project, increased
opportunities to educate about attribution and share alike, and more
vibrant ecosystem of values-aligned collaborations.

This is an essential step for the long term financial stability of
OpenStreetMap.

You can help with this effort by sharing this post and the guidelines with
organizations who use OSM, but are not yet members and inviting them to
join us.
