You are right.
The aspect “official proof of membership” is more important to me than the possibility of passing it on.

I am not sure if business card is the right word, but for example as a member of the Swiss Alpine Club I get a yearly card (quite flimsy, punches out of a letter with laminate) that is nice to have.
In the Italian Alpine Club there is a membership booklet that is a bit like a passport where you add a small postage-like stamp for each year that you renew.
Either way, it's a nice idea. Worth adding $2 or such to get a card, maybe.

Happy Day!
I have just renewed my membership as an ordinary OSMF member and a wish, an
idea has come to my mind.
As a craft mapper, I am sometimes asked suspicious questions. To break the
ice, the first thing I do is introduce myself. To support this, I have often
wished for an OSM-related business card.
Wouldn't it be a nice gesture to give all members a professionally designed,
personalised business card as a small thank you after they have paid their
membership fee?
I would also understand an increase in the membership fee :-)
Regards,
Robert
