I think many would love to buy merchandise through osm.org - both mappers
and users as a form of sponsorship. This would be especially beneficial if
it could be made and shipped domestically both in single units and in bulk.
The following examples come to mind that we would find handy: safety vests,
protective caps & straw hats, t-shirt, a case or at least a sticker for
your phone, measuring tape, spirit level, backpack, generic business cards,
flyers (localized). The concept is for the mapper to appear as official as
possible and broadcast the intent of scrutiny as clearly as possible.
A logo with "osm.org" should appear on the smallest surfaces. If the object
is big enough, it may even contain a short permalink to your user profile
in a QR code that allows others to contact you if you befriend whoever you
are talking to. The osm profile page should ideally also indicate whether
the user is an OSMF member and if yes, since when (along with possibly
other statistics that serve as proof of mapping experience).
