I have also faced questions from people on my surveys, especially when taking geotagged photos. Often they actually ask for a business card (as though it were some kind of formal authorization for the survey), and I struggle to convince them that you don't need a card (nor some government/company's authorization) to contribute to OSM.

So a card which contributors can print may help. I also made two flyers (one in English and another in Hindi) some time ago, which may be relevant here.

That said (and at the risk of diverging from the subject), for some reason I'm more interested in large-scale publicity for OSM, rather than depending upon individual contributors to publicize it. I don't always have the time or patience to explain OSM to people and address their fears, and I fear I do a poor job of it - surely there are others in the same situation?
