Well, after another day of downloading (this time from the official
planet.openstreetmap.org site), the planet file is YET AGAIN corrupted.
$ md5sum -c planet-100618.osm.bz2.md5 planet-100618.osm.bz2
planet-100618.osm.bz2: FAILED
md5sum: WARNING: 1 of 1 computed checksum did NOT match
$ bunzip2 -k planet-100618.osm.bz2
bunzip2: Data integrity error when decompressing.
Input file = planet-100618.osm.bz2, output file =
planet-100618.osm
It is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted.
You can use the -tvv option to test integrity of such files.
You can use the `bzip2recover' program to attempt to recover
data from undamaged sections of corrupted files.
bunzip2: Deleting output file planet-100618.osm, if it exists.

Bugger, I just looked at the WGET responses and noticed:
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 302 Found
Location:

So it ended up getting it from the same mirror I got it from in the first
place.
Is there some other manner in which I can download a RECENT planet?
