I downloaded zlib 1.2.7, compiled and installed, ran ldconfig,
confirmed with the test program you provided that I am indeed running
1.2.7, then
wget -O - http://m.m.i24.cc/osmconvert.c | cc -x c - -lz -O3 -o osmconvert
but still! the same error!
I stand confused.
