[OSRM-talk] Demo server stability - an update

Hi all,

Over the last few months, there have been some stability issues with the demo server. Hopefully from today, things should be a bit more stable.

Late last year, the original demo server hosted by KIT had become unmaintained. As a stop-gap measure, an alternative server was configured, and a reverse proxy installed on the existing server. This worked reasonably well, except when it didn't.

Today, we've swapped the DNS records over to point directly to the alternative server, and set up a standalone SSL certificate so we can serve requests over HTTPS.

  The canonical URL remains:

    https://router.project-osrm.org/ <https://router.project-osrm.org/>

for requests. There may be a few remaining problems while DNS entries expire in people's caches, but they should disappear.

Any problems in the future should be a bit easier to resolve, as we now have several people with access to all the parts of the puzzle. If you experience problems, please file a ticket on GitHub.

A big thanks to DennisL and KIT for hosting the demo server all these years, and here's to many more to come!

daniel
