[OSRM-talk] Use of maxspeed.lua in profiles and where it gets its values from?

Hello,
I am trying to figure out how exactly speed is determined when routing, and
stumbled upon the important sounding name "maxspeed.lua" in the files - but
it does not seem to be used at all in the standard car profile, only in the
bicycle profile, and even there Is it needed for anything else?
Nonetheless I would like to know where it gets its values from
(max,maxb,maxf)?
