[Photon] Geocoding not working due to server unavailability?

Dear all and especially the developers behind photon api,

I have an issue regarding the photon api:

I'm using the R package "photon" for geocoding addresses in a course in 
university. Since a few days, the function geocode() just returns the 
error message:

Error in file(con, "r") : cannot open the connection

Checking the website manually by typing in the proposed simple search 
string http://photon.komoot.de/api/?q=berlin in browser returns that the 
server is unavailable at the moment.

**Do you know how long the server will be unavailable?
