That might probably be because of the low-tech mapping trick:

Say you're going throught the street and you try to map house numbers (or
amenities, etc) on both sides on the street. When taking photos on those on
the left side, you would tilt camera 45 degrees to to left, and when taking
photos of those on the right side, you would title camera 45 degrees to the
right. When taking picture of something staight ahead, you would keep 0
degrees angle.
Unless your camera have built-in compass for EXIF tagging, that is very
helpful feature for mapping.
