Hi John and all
I have written some code so that the small square photos on OSV can be
clicked and a popup appears showing the 'medium' size picture. Below that
is a link to the large size. This answers one of the feature requests
which appear from time to time. I have put a test version of OSV with just
a couple of pictures in it here:
http://54.247.166.63:3000/ (running on an EC2 micro instance, so fairly
slow)
I have put my patch on Github and will issue a "pull request" if you're OK
with it, but I thought it would be useful to allow people to test it
first. Any feedback is welcome - the user experience isn't perfect but I
think it works OK. The way the panning and popups work may cause trouble
on some small screens. Please note that my programming skills are limited
so I may struggle to improve on what I have done so far!
Thank you for the patient feedback you have given others in the past. It
was a struggle to install Ruby on Rails - I certainly could not have done
it without all the emails in the archive to this list.
My interest is in improving OSV in connection with the plans to add 3D
attributes to OSM. I figure this will be much easier if we have access to
steet level photography. As 3D models develop, it may also be possible to
use the photos in combination with the models to create ground level
perspective views that merge the two.
Oliver
