Definitely worth it - the success of a live renderer will be part  
functionality (how good does the map look?), and part ease-of-use (how  
easy is it to define the styles?), so using a well-known style format  
will really help.

I had a brief look around to see what AS3 CSS parsers already exist,  
and Camo (http://flashartofwar.com/2009/02/05/camo’s-css-parser/)  
looks both competent and has a friendly licence.
