I have no problems with this.

1) Draw the first way
2) Starting somewhere else, start drawing the second way and head
towards the first
3) Mouse over the first way between two existing nodes, and the pen
icon has a plus sign
4) Click on the first way, to insert a junction node []
5) Press return to finish drawing the second way, if that's the end,
or keep going if it's a cross-roads

Is that what you are trying to do, or have I misunderstood your problem?
