 IMHO we have too little on each tab, and hence too many tabs. Looking at
 highway=residential, there is: Basic, Naming, Cycle, Physical, Permission,
 Restrictions, Walking, Transport, Misc. These could, with a bit of
 thought, be condensed greatly, perhaps down to something like Physical,
 Usage (covering anything that is painted or signed), and Routes.

 Or, perhaps have smarter ways of working out which properties a user is
 interested in.

 But, basically, I don't think simply looking for a way to jam more tabs
 onto the screen is going to lead to good usability or an elegant
 interface.
