These are excellent questions and ones I'd like to discuss. I had
previously thought that this was a community process of decision
making, but recent statements from Richard Fairhurst (lead maintainer
of Potlatch2) indicate otherwise. I would very much like to hear
Richard's view. I'm quite interested in helping shape the process by
which features are included or not included, but not if it's "subject
to veto".

What differences are you seeing? Is it just that the source code is
older than what's deployed on openstreetmap.org? And do you know how
the type restrictions work (eg, a "node" type of thing wouldn't show
up if you had a way selected...)
