 After many edits (and crashes), I found that the problem seems to occur
 more when way tags are overwritten. For example, if a way has the tag
 "highway" = "road", and I press the "+" key, and type "hi" (invoking
 "highway" as the autocomplete option), press the "tab" key, and type "re"
 (invoking "residential" as the autocomplete option), the chance of getting
 stuck with the screen un-updateable is much higher than normal.

 On the other hand, if in the previous example I press the "0" key to
 remove all tags from the way, and only after that add the "highway" =
 "residential" to the same way, I never saw the problem again (going to map
 more later...)
