 What do you mean by "stay centred" exactly?

 I can't remember offhand exactly what OpenLayers did, but Leaflet seems to
 be behaving reasonably as far as I can see - it ensures that whatever
 point I zoom in on with the scroll wheel stays in view as I zoom in.
