[openstreetmap-website] Map no longer usable on small mobile screen (#431)

I had written this on the blogpost and copy/pasted it here so excuse the verbosity.
I last used the map in June on the Curve (editing OSM daily using iD or JOSM). Today I decided to check out how this change affected my Curve.
The map is not visible, nor are the map controls. Furthermore the removal of the zoom bar (which I never use on PC but use on phone) would make it impossible or very hard to zoom on the map, were it to appear. Attached is a screenshot showing what screen looks like now.
The white bit at the bottom is the room my map has, where I could pan and zoom. Now when I try to pan I just get a "select text" option so obviously some layer (I'm guessing the sidebar) has taken over that space.
