Have you considered the possibility that it's Christmas and the relevant people might just be away and not be paying attention to you lot competing to see who can write the longest essay on this bug?

I was once on the verge of merging this, but it became clear that there wasn't good consensus so I stopped. I will review that when I have time but really the amount of noise here doesn't actually help at all - just repeating the same arguments ad infinitum doesn't add anything any neither does trying to stage some sort of self selecting popular vote.

I would also note for the record that at one point there really were people talking about adding OLC codes to OSM objects so it wasn't a totally mad thing for somebody to raise.
