By the way, the upcoming FOSSGIS conference in March 2019 has a talk on this topic: https://pretalx.com/fossgis2019/talk/DRPBMB/ - "What are all those funny addressing schemas?  Who is using them, and does the world need them at all?"

Besides OpenLocationCode there's even more out there, like Mapcode, created by a non-profit in the Netherlands. I guess they will be the next asking to be included on OSM. 

I don't know the speaker, but @woodpeck probably does so. Might be interesting to get further feedback from someone with a bigger picture of the topic.
