My only comment here is that I would be very cautious about using a non-openstreetmap.org dns name in production. It's likely that some people will copy it and use it directly, and the longer the trial (i.e. the more successful the trial) the more likely that is to happen.

If it's possible to use a CNAME alias for a domain that OSMF owns (e.g. tile-dev-cdn.openstreetmap.org or similar) then that would be an option. But perhaps that has been considered already in private discussions.
