Take this node for example: https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/817876126/history
The location is different between versions 1 and 2. Suppose you might want to see where each version was located on the map.
If you click on either location you are zoomed to z18 but the sidebar disappears and there no marker to indicate the actual location, you've just go to guess where the middle of the screen is.
However if you put the location into the search box, you get this link https://www.openstreetmap.org/search?query=55.9579283%2C%20-3.2594455#map=19/55.95793/-3.25944 which allows you to however the co-ordinates and it shows a red marker.
While the location link may only have a limited amount of use cases, they could be improved by having a marker which allows you see where the location is on the map.
