[openstreetmap/openstreetmap-website] GSoC project: JSON support for some API endpoints (element upload) (Issue #3501)

Yes, one of these four endpoints is also implemented in CGImap (diff upload), the others are Rails only. Since we need JSON support for the Rails port before moving to CGImap, API consumers may have to wait a bit longer before JSON uploads will be available in production.

I think it's difficult to avoid this situation, since we're unlikely to find someone familiar with both Rails and C++. On the other hand, it would be good to have someone who is at least working on the Rails part, since I won't have much time to look into it (like everyone else).

Mentoring is a bit of a challenging topic, and I don't have a good answer for it at the moment.
