Just found out about this proposed change and wanted to say it would be super super helpful with some of the QA stuff I have been doing (normalization of gnis:feature_id tagged objects). I usually end up heading into JOSM which offers a similar experience but it would rule if this way on the site.
@JesseWeinstein was curious about the performance in JOSM for objects with long histories so here's some anecdata:
r26621 (~3200 versions) = 13 seconds
w885527284 (~2500 versions) = 9 seconds
