Yes that definitely isn't going to work... Not one of my better ideas. I've backed out that change but added a small fix for the flash messages when signing up with a social account which I noticed when looking at your change.

I'm still not really keen on having the message above the heading bar but I'm going to go ahead and merge it and we can always improve things later if @gravitystorm has better ideas or other things he's like changing once he has time to look at things again.
