Since all options have their pros and cons, ideally all of them wound be implemented, and which one is used should be user-selectable.

Regarding option 3b (advanced filters) I'd like to suggest [this article](https://monochrome.sutic.nu/2024/02/25/hue-preserving-invert-css-filter-for-dark-mode.html] as explanation on why this is important, but hard. The actual filter that is proposed there could also be a baseline for further optimization. It's kinda optimized for (Gooole) maps, so it might work for OSM as well.
