Ah, to be clear, it's not a duplicate of the git history, the 99.99% of the volunteer FOSS projects provides a 1-line summary + link to PR, for the user-visible changes.

I think that [continuous integration](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuous_integration) is not incompatible with, say, a standard `CHANGELOG` file with date / commit + summary + link to PR, if you don't like git tags.
