MapLibre only supports version 8 of the MapLibre Style Specification. It’s an error not to specify version 8. Mapbox held out some hope of a backwards incompatible version 9 at some point (mapbox/mapbox-gl-js#6584), but it’s a remote possibility even for MapLibre because of all the tooling that would have to change.
