For comparison https://map.atownsend.org.uk/vector/index_svwd03.html#12.05/31.50179/-9.75804/0/1 is a different style that uses system fonts. 

That shows Berber OK on a test Android phone and Linux PC with lots of fonts already, but the PC has font issues in SE Asia (Myanmar/Thailand).

Whether it's a good idea to rely on locally-installed fonts rather than a PBF served version for the OSMF Versatiles Colorful example likely needs discussion elsewhere.
