That's not what was pointed out. What I pointed out is that if someone wants to write a comment deliberately containing links to different osm domains, that difference is going to be lost. It's going to be lost with any replacement, including throwing out the domain entirely as you propose.

osm.org is already used in *Share > Short link*.
