Would it be possible (and make sense) to show a warning icon to raise that there's an issue, while at the same time render the link, automatically prefixed with `https://` (or `http://`)? (I don't know all the possibilities when rendering the tags table).

Getting iD to validate and offer affordances sounds good. However I am concerned about historical values, plus future ones added by clients that don't validate. If I'm doing this right, there are about [35k+ occurrences](https://qlever.cs.uni-freiburg.de/osm-planet/XHpoeO) of values starting with `www.` at the moment (and [56k+ occurrences](https://qlever.cs.uni-freiburg.de/osm-planet/jn7WEX) just missing a protocol).
