Nothing anymore, as you correctly deduced previously.
Introduced in #4712, amended in #5387 and #5362, and basically disabled (until further notice) in #5507, this was added to make two options from #5328 possible via CSS filters.
This was subsequently never used again and is also incompatible with the way MapLibre renders maps.
