That sounds reasonable to me. The current limitation was more experimental than based on a specific reason. Separate PR though 🙂 

I think a problem is that currently the notifications render quite big, so I feel it's trickier to go through a long list compared to having them on something more like a table with rows of consistent height, like GitHub or Discourse do. This is something else that could be evolved (any volunteers? 😉).

Another thought I had was having a "select ALL notifications, even those beyond this page" sort of thing, which GitHub or GMail have. I'm not including that feature here for simplicity, because I first would like to have the discussion I present above. Depending how things go, perhaps could be included, or it could come in a separate PR. But if it goes in a separate PR it can take time and it's annoying for those of you who already have hundreds of notifications and will have to clear them manually anyway...
