Although I welcome comments to demystify cgimap, in my opinion we should reduce it as much as possible, to elimination if that's even an option. I see it as a barrier to entry to new contributors, who are much more likely to know Ruby (or similar languages) than C++.

I appreciate that it was adopted for good reason, but it was a long time ago and Ruby has gone a long way since. At some point I'd like to run some benchmarks to see what the difference is in different endpoints nowadays. Perhaps Lake Huron is still unsurmountable by Ruby, or perhaps it isn't!
