If this goes ahead I would strongly recommend only showing this to the logged in user themselves by default, and let them opt in to displaying it publicly.
No matter what filters you put in (recency, number of changesets, window size etc) there will always be a risk of exposing someone's home location unexpectedly, prominently and persistently. This should be a choice a user is able to make only after they understand the consequences.
It's undoubtedly an interesting visualisation, but its prominence on a user's profile should be taken into account.
I'd also suggest avoiding any "your first edit" map (without an opt in) for obvious persistency reasons.
