For the record: that's good enough for me.

There are arguments for both an offline and a in-place transition. I 
don't, frankly, care that much. What I do care about is that it works, 
and doesn't take forever. If Matt's judgment is that the offline 
transition is a better way of accomplishing that, it has my vote.
