Prof. Jetzke,
To me, a address has a legal meaning ("domicile"). If a legal address is on
a street A, it does not mean that the main entrance (or any entrance
whatsoever) is located on street A.
Fortunately, in the vast majority of cases, you can generate good routing
instructions by geocoding that address (into coordinates) and route to the
routable OSM edge with the smallest orthogonal distance to those
coordinates.
We can discuss some of the problem cases if you give us examples.
