Regional/country level stats are a definite need. I've also wanted to see
stats on the user community per country ... segmented based on their
experience with OSM (by date of signup, or number of contributions)
and comparing remote vs local mappers (are mappers on the ground, or tracing).

Collecting a few ideas at
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:Stats#Thoughts_on_improved_metrics

The exact idea is to easily track and identify communities progress, and
target programs (this may not be within OSMF, as discussed).

Cheers
Mikel
