[Strategic] getting started

Thanks for the introductions. I'm really stoked to be working with you fine folks on this.

If I can pull out our common goals, we want to help OSM and OSMF grow, and appeal to new communities, but based in reality without pushing beyond where OSM is naturally growing. It's crucial to be open in our communications, and help build consensus. To start, we need to determine where we want to go, and from there, find the resources to make it happen.

On communications, this list is public. We might need to start a private list, if we get into any sensitive discussions, but I don't see the need now.
To help with communication, I'd like us to commit to rounding up the discussion here periodically, say every couple weeks or once a month, with a post to OpenGeoData, or the bigger lists. Can someone take this up for the first round, at least?

So, where do we want to go?

To start, I'd be curious to simply hear ... what do we all think are
the priorities and needs. My suggestion is to brainstorm, open ended
without critique. We can gather and distill this picture into a page on
the wiki.

Nick, we were part of a couple Board meetings to draw up priorities, and project the future. Perhaps we can also share any artifacts from those meetings, and build on those and the framework. Do you have access to those documents?

What are the current facts?

The financials for 2009 for OSMF were just recently submitted. I'll ask if that can be shared with us.

Matt, from the technical group, I'm wondering if there's some details on the historic hardware expenditures, and documents on the projected needs?

Finally, there are several active offers to support what OSMF wants to do, once we figure it out. This actually bring ups another thread, which is a possible face to face meeting of the group. I'll start that seperately.
