It's simply a mater of effort:
1) For me as a private person who doesn't get it's flights around the
world sponsered by a company (like some other people) the costs of a
trip to the US just for a three day's conference is too high.
2) This is the same regarding the duration of the trip: it's simply too
far away => flight takes too long athough I basically like flying.
(There is the jet lag also.)
3) And it would be the same for a conference in Australia or South
Africa or Japan or [take any long distance flight destignation]...

But for whom is OSM.org for? Is it a page dedicated (only) for the OSMF
or for the community? Isn't the biggest part of the community in Europe?
So why is the OSMF not supporting the OSM community around the word? Is
only that what was started by the board as official OSM event?

You started OSM as a community project, the OSMF was then founded to
support the project and therefor community. According to my
understanding the SOTM-EU is a conference organized by the community for
the community. So why is this not supported? I'm a little dissapointed
to read your statement... :-(

Best regards,
Michael.
