OK, I aknowledge this, IMHO sad, because it puts the granularity in
all other highway-tags away for path which can be everything where
someone can walk, be it a big hiking-"primary" or an informal shortcut
in a park.

I inform you that I am using informal=yes for ways that are not
constructed and not maintained or signposted but are only there for
the fact that someone uses them.
