I'm afraid I don't see the benefit of IRC for OSM.

It produces knee jerk reactions & you only discuss with other people in 
your own time zones.

This tagging forum list allows everybody around the globe to join in & 
gives the poster time to give a considered answer to what has been 
discussed previously.
