I agree, that would harm more then help.

no, it was more about constructed / intended / maintained vs. evolved
by usage (informally, maybe sometimes even "illegally" ("don't step on
the grass").

no, and I noticed that here is not mayority for a new class below path
so I will tag them as path (with all its characteristics and subtags)
and add informal=yes to the cases I have in mind.
