Probably "format" or "style"

With regard to the more general topic (sorry I haven't read every
email in the chain; it was August): with railways, I think the transit
list ended up concluding that you'd have to put the number of tracks
in a route relation (as distinct from a service relation), which might
consist of a number of consecutive and/or parallel ways. So rather
than saying that x is parallel to y, you're saying that x & y are part
of a route that typically has (say) two tracks side-by-side.

It's relatively easy for railways, because trains can only change
tracks at defined points. For roads, it gets much more complicated,
and I'm far from convinced it's worth the complexity.
